The more we worked with this lot, the more we appreciated its balance. Clean, floral, and effortlessly drinkable, with a profile that reveals itself slowly: peach, jasmine, and biscuits.
This single-producer lot comes from Mr. Tadese Teko in the village of Shale, near Worka in Yirgacheffe’s Gedeo Zone, one of Ethiopia’s most celebrated coffee regions. He farms 8 hectares of land, which is considered large in an area where most farms average half that size. His children help him on the farm, making it a true family-run business, something we deeply relate to. Thanks to coffee, he has been able to support all nine of them and send them to school.
Like most growers in the region, Mr. Tadese relies on organic methods, using compost and natural waste as fertilizer, and often works at local washing stations during harvest to supplement income. While he typically delivers cherry to be processed alongside others, this lot was separated out for its exceptional quality.
It is part of the Single Farmer Project, which supports traceable Ethiopian coffees and helps producers like Mr. Tadese connect more directly with roasters and drinkers.
We’re proud to share a glimpse of his work.
