Coffees are shaped by altitude. This natural lot is grown at 2300 MASL, it offers notes of red fruit, hibiscus, a winey acidity, and a soft milk chocolate finish. 

Mr. Mengeche Derso owns and cultivates 15 hectares in the highlands of the Gedeo Zone, one of Ethiopia’s most iconic coffee-growing regions. At 62 years old, he brings a lifetime of knowledge to his work, and it shows in the clarity and depth of his coffees.

Four of Mr. Mengeche’s twelve children help him on the farm, keeping it a true family operation. Like many in the region, he uses natural fertilizing methods, composting with manure and plant waste to maintain healthy, chemical-free soil. His farm sits among some of the highest in Yirgacheffe, where cool temperatures allow the cherries to ripen slowly and increase bean density.

This coffee is part of the Single Farmer Project, an effort to make Ethiopian coffee more traceable and to support producers like Mr. Mengeche by connecting their work directly to roasters and drinkers.
